SonicWall Secure Mobile Access Administrator (SMAA) Practice Exam

What describes Dual Gateway mode in the SMA?

Traffic from external clients is sent to the external GW only

All traffic is routed through the internal gateway

Internal client traffic is sent to the external GW

External traffic identity is changed to internal before being routed

Dual Gateway mode in the SonicWall Secure Mobile Access (SMA) allows for a specific configuration that enhances the security and management of traffic flow between external clients and internal resources. The feature primarily focuses on the handling of external traffic as it enters the internal network.

The correct option highlights the crucial aspect of Dual Gateway mode: when external traffic is processed, its identity is transformed into an internal format before being routed further into the internal network. This means that the session for external clients is maintained and has a clear record as it transitions into the internal network, ensuring that internal resources can make authorization decisions based on the identity of the user rather than the external sources representing them.

This approach helps in maintaining security protocols and ensures that proper access controls, policies, and logging processes are observed within the internal network. It facilitates a seamless connection while providing an added layer of identity management that is crucial for compliance and security monitoring.

In summary, the transformation of external traffic identity to internal helps maintain security integrity and facilitates the correct routing and access management of network communications in a Dual Gateway setup.
